the spiral

spiral: (adj) winding around a center or pole and gradually receding from or approaching it; of or relating to the advancement to higher levels throug a series of cyclical movements.

the spiral is one of - if not - the most important symbol to me. it's one of those i've been seeing for so long, and when you realize it's appearing, you see it even more. considering the way my life has gone up until this point, i identify with the spiral greatly.

the spiral is a symbol for life, the twist and turns of events, and the cycle of birth to death. it's about those minor changes in your life that ultimately lead you down the spiral of your life. it also helps helps with coming to terms with the constant evolution that is living and experiencing existence. in the case of an outward winding spiral, it's about expanding your horizons, coming out of yourself, and pushing forward. an inward coiling spiral symbolizes inner reflection, receding into your inner worlds, and a period of rest.

spirals are a symbol that have appeared in prehistoric and ancient art for thousands of years. it is part of the universal human language, the repertoire of symbolic alphabet inherent to the human race. also referred to as entoptic imagery, shapes appearing on the surface of the eyes. think floaters and psychedelic visuals. i will discuss this more in another section.

like i mentioned before, the spiral is a very important figure to me. it's been a symbol i've embodied and respected for years at this point, even before i realized its significance to me. my life has been... pretty chaotic to say the least. for a very long time. realizing the message the spiral was conveying to me, it's made me realize all of these trials and tribulations are what led me to this very moment. to where i am today. even through the worst of the worst, the best of the best. those moments were all different parts of the path of my life. despite how much i would have wished some of those moments never happened, they made me into the person i am today.

reverence to the spiral

myself winding

inside outside

looking through the coils

catching on a turn

twist into yourself

open out with extended arms

the infinitesimal beginning

rolling down the neverending

slipping off the end

into the eternal

coiled inside tight

leaking out into the world

coming together end to end

continuing forever
